The food is only part of what makes this place appealing. Château Restaurant St. Gerlach also feels like a lovely spot for a short escape, with a historic setting and cultural or music evenings held regularly, sometimes in the old St. Gerlach Church. We had classic dishes such as scallops, Iberico pork, and veal sweetbreads, prepared with real finesse by chef Otto Nijenhuis. You can eat in the elegant restaurant or the more casual Bistro de Liege, both tucked into the château's baroque buildings. A great fit for anyone who enjoys good cooking, heritage, and a chance to unwind.

The food was wonderful, and we enjoyed the hotel and its restaurants during our couple of nights here. The castle sits about 10 km from Maastricht, making it a relaxing place to spend a weekend. Our room had been recently remodeled, and we liked the surrounding area too.

We had such a lovely stay. The spa was restful and had everything we needed, and both the rooms and grounds were beautiful. Everyone on staff was kind and friendly. The church connected to the property is the most beautiful one I've ever seen. I'd love to come back in spring or summer when everything is in bloom. Definitely worth a visit near Maastricht.

We came here as a wedding present to ourselves, and it turned out to be an amazing stay. They moved us from a standard room to a suite, which was so thoughtful, and a small bottle of champagne from the house was waiting when we arrived. Before dinner, we had wonderful cocktails at the bar. The pool and spa were a really relaxing part of the visit, and dinner at the restaurant was one of our best date nights together. We'll be back to explore more of the nature around this beautiful chateau.

The gardens are a lovely place to wander, with classical and contemporary art dotted around the grounds. I also appreciated the estate's history: the chapel dates to 1664, built by the De Villers family, and is linked to the nearby grave of St. Gerlach, a 12th-century hermit whose burial place became a pilgrimage site and helped shape the estate's early monastic past. I stayed in a Junior Suite in one of the tower annexes in front of the main building. It had its own outside entrance and about 40 square metres of space, with a king-size bed, wardrobe, TV, small sitting area, large desk, Nespresso machine, tea facilities, and minibar. Housekeeping came daily. There was no turndown service, but they replenished the complimentary water each day, and a box of sweets was waiting on arrival. The bathroom had a double vanity, rain shower, integrated toilet, heated towel rail, and Sothys toiletries. Breakfast was a small, high-quality buffet of cold items and juices, with plenty of freshly prepared à-la-carte choices too. The staff were consistently friendly. For meals, Les Salons in the historic château serves modern French food inspired by Limburg ingredients. Its tasting menu was beautifully presented, full of finesse and flavour, and both the service and wine list were excellent. Burgemeester Quicx, near the entrance and conference centre, is more casual, with hearty regional dishes and familiar classics, served warmly and professionally. The Lobby Bar has an intimate château feel and works well for a drink before or after dinner. The pool is in the former stables, with plenty of room to swim and loungers. There's also a small sauna and steam room. The spa is in a separate building, so you have to walk outside to reach it, whatever the weather. There isn't a gym on the estate. Château St. Gerlach is a grand historic property among peaceful parkland on the edge of the Ingendael Nature Reserve, a short distance from Valkenburg. It's privately owned by the Oostwegel family, belongs to the Relais & Châteaux collection, and offers 59 rooms, suites, and residences across the château, manor farmstead, and outbuildings. The hotel has a refined but personal feel, with comfortable accommodation, very good dining, and warm service. I can recommend it for a relaxing stay.
