Our own living room, bedroom, and bathroom made for a comfortable weekend at De Veenborgh. From the living room, we could look out over a field and spot deer early in the morning, and the fireplace made everything feel even cozier. The rooms and grounds were clean, and the service was great. The host was very friendly. We really enjoyed our stay, and I’d definitely recommend De Veenborgh.

This is a special place Freek has put together, though it’s more like camping in a caravan than staying somewhere luxurious. If you want luxury, it probably won’t suit you. We loved hearing only nature around us, apart from the odd mosquito, which might end up as a spider’s snack. If you’re afraid of spiders, bring someone who can shoo them away. In summer it’s a great spot. In winter, the cold and the 50-meter walk to the main house for the toilet at night make it more suited to hardy people happy to enjoy the quiet from bed. Breakfast is delivered to the caravan in a box. Freek is a friendly, engaging host and conversationalist who speaks excellent German. Our old dog enjoyed herself too. She had to stay on a leash because of the chickens, but still had a great time. We had a lovely weekend away from the city bustle. Thumbs up!
