De Hofjes Hotel

The views across the lake and its waterbirds are beautiful, and the staff are very friendly. Breakfast is wonderful and really makes the restaurant and hotel. The rooms are basic but clean, though the walls are so thin you can hear the neighbors clearly. The shower is in the toilet, which I’ve only seen before in a campervan. If you want a nice hotel, I wouldn’t choose this one. For food, it’s much better.

I’m reviewing the hotel that’s part of the restaurant. My room was tiny, but I loved it and found the small place quite comfortable. There’s a lovely self-serve tea and coffee station in the corridor, and a quaint bar downstairs. The bathroom is the main drawback: the shower is level with the WC, and even with the curtain, water gets across most of the floor, so watch out for wet socks when you go to the toilet. The stairs to the rooms are steep, so pack light. It wasn’t very busy while I was there, but if the restaurant fills up, I’d expect the noise to carry into the room. I couldn’t try breakfast because it opened later than my checkout time.

Checked again on 7/6/23, and it was still the same. The location is great, but the spare ribs were very dry and gave me stomach pains all night. Still a nice spot for a drink in the sun. Back on 15/5/22, I also found the location great but the food terrible and overpriced. Good for drinks, but I’d avoid eating here.

We had Christmas dinner here, but the restaurant didn’t seem well organized, and the service gave the impression they didn’t want to be there. The food was okay, though not hot enough. Dessert was really good. I wouldn’t come back for Christmas.
