Hanze Hotel Zwolle

The room was lovely and clean, with a comfortable bed and pillow. It had a fridge with bottled water, a coffee machine, kettle and earplugs, and the shower water got burning hot. The old town location is excellent, but the noise was extreme, from pubs in the evening, the Saturday market, morning road sweeping and kitchen fans. I'd only recommend it to people who can sleep through very loud noise.

I visit Zwolle often for work and have stayed in several places. I'll be going back to the other hotels now. The noise from outside and neighboring rooms depends on which room you get. Last time mine was pretty loud, though luckily it started raining and everyone went inside. The whole setup feels impersonal when a hotel does everything electronically. A website link opened both the building door and my room. Having no staff to meet or contact has drawbacks. The first morning there was no power in my room. I tried to find someone, but only cleaning staff seemed to be around. The electricity came back soon, with no explanation. Oddly, the rest of the building still had power.

We asked for a quiet room when booking, but ours overlooked the market and was anything but quiet. We could hear people in the next room breathing, then market traders arrived at 4 am to set up Saturday stalls. We barely slept, even with the windows closed. There was no air conditioning and the room was baking hot. We also asked for an early breakfast when we arrived, but that wasn't possible. When we complained, the hotel apologized.

The hotel’s location was the one good part for me. The rest was a terrible experience: people stomping around and slamming doors made everything shake, and hallway conversations carried through the whole building. I wouldn’t suggest it to anyone looking for a peaceful, quiet stay.
