Hotel Aak

The staff made us feel right at home, always warm and ready to answer questions or help. We stayed in several high-end hotels in Norway, but Hotel AAK was one of our favorites, especially for the food. Dinner was a wonderful surprise, the chef did such a great job. The hotel itself is beautiful and quaint, and we loved our stay. If we return to Norway, this will be at the top of our list.

Sharing breakfast and dinner around a big table with the other guests was a lovely way to get to know people and have good conversations. The staff were so attentive they even insisted on bringing our luggage to the room. The rooms were cozy and comfortable, and I loved relaxing in the charming tea and coffee areas. It's a welcoming place in a picturesque setting, with convenient parking and thoughtful design. Highly recommended.

The bar and its fireplace made for a really inviting spot to relax. The rooms were cozy, and the food was exceptional. A wonderful hotel just outside Åndalsnes.

The heat and noise made it hard to sleep. Our family room faced south and west, and it got unbearably hot. We had to leave the windows wide open to catch a breeze, but trucks and motorcycles on the road kept going well past midnight. The hotel has only a limited number of fans, and none were available to us. Breakfast wasn't included, which we didn't realize until we saw the bill. That was fine, but when we arrived at 9:00 the buffet was already half empty: no scrambled eggs, little cheese, only bread ends, empty jam jars, and no smoothies. Several things didn't come out until at least 40 minutes later, when we were ready to leave, despite our requests. We had to ask for coffee too, and it arrived late. There were good parts to our stay. The hotel interior and garden were lovely and set up for relaxing, the staff were welcoming and helpful, and our room was spacious and nicely decorated. We met lots of nice people at the group dinner and later over drinks in the garden. The three-course dinner cost about $70 per person and had no choices. It was beautifully presented, and my wife thought it was one of the best meals she'd had in Norway. My daughter and I were less impressed, mostly because of our food preferences. The appetizer was goat and the main was fish. We stayed one night in the Superior (family) room in July 2025. It was a mixed experience, and we'd probably stay somewhere else if we were in the area again.
