Thon Hotel Arendal

The shower was the one letdown. It was unexpectedly dirty, unlike the rest of the room, which was spacious, comfortable, and nicely decorated. I told the receptionist at checkout, and she apologized sincerely, made a note, and said she'd get it fixed. Parking is across the street at this large chain hotel. I was welcomed by a friendly receptionist and stayed on the 6th floor, where breakfast is served. The guest lounge was cozy, with complimentary coffee and tea and an ice machine. The gym had modern equipment and was great. Breakfast offered plenty of choice and was very good, though the chocolate milk dispenser was nearly empty when I got there. Overall, the facilities and staff were excellent, but the shower cleaning needs work.

Breakfast was the one bright spot: friendly people, a pleasant atmosphere, lots of choice, and a nice view. It felt as though that space wasn't even part of the hotel. The room itself was nowhere near worth the price. The view was ugly, and strange people below the windows disturbed the night's peace. The shower stall was dirty with white stains, the carpets were stained, and there was dust everywhere. The little fridge was packed with overpriced drinks. Do I have to ask reception to open a bottle and pay extra? The parking was overpriced too, in a terrible little garage. This isn't the standard we're used to. Even the cheapest Airbnb is better. The issues above ruined the cozy, pleasant feeling, so my overall rating has to be low.

The room was decent, though too warm, and I'm not sure the air-conditioning worked right. It was quiet apart from one morning when the cleaners spoke very loudly in their own language, waking me and keeping me from getting back to sleep. Having an electric kettle in the room was a big plus. The gym was good, though I couldn't get the treadmill working. Check-in was perfect, and the front desk staff were very polite.

The breakfast restaurant on the 6th floor has a fantastic city view. I slept perfectly on the soft, comfortable bed, and the hotel is clean and in the best location you could ask for. Parking is only a minute away. I'll definitely stay here again on my next business trip to Arendal. Recommended!
