The food was a real highlight, with healthy, delicious meals made using vegetables from the hotel garden. Lindis also spent a whole day showing us around, sharing her knowledge of the area and her culture. You can feel her personal touch everywhere, from the homemade soap and shampoo to the alpaca duvets and thoughtfully chosen gifts. We even got to feed the resident alpacas. Our rooms were spacious and comfortable, and the welcome was warmer and more personal than anything we’ve experienced on our travels.

The meals, made at home with local ingredients, and time with the friendly alpacas made our three days at BesteBakken feel special. Lindis and her husband put so much care into giving us a genuine Norwegian experience. We learned about the area as Lindis hiked and biked with us around Hafslo, Veitastrond, Solvorn and Ornes. We were visiting from the U.S. to celebrate our daughter’s senior gift, and came away with memories to last a lifetime. Incredible stay, far beyond what we expected. Thank you, Lindis!

We had a lovely ride on electric bikes along the fjord, with beautiful scenery on the way to Norway’s oldest stave church (Urnes) and the waterfall "Feigefossen". Back at the hotel, the alpacas were very friendly, though they may spit if they feel intimidated. The Kristina-House, where my wife-to-be and I stayed in early July, was spacious and felt luxurious, just down the hill from the rest of Bestebakken. Breakfast and dinner were both amazing, homemade multi-course meals with local ingredients. Sitting together with the other guests made for some interesting conversation. Thanks to Lindis for being such a great host and chef!

The rooms are roomy and the beds really comfortable. We also loved the local food, and hearing the stories behind it. Such a friendly place, with great hosts.

Bestebakken was one of the best places we stayed, and we wished we’d found similar B&Bs throughout the trip. It’s a quiet spot on a hill above town, with friendly staff and alpacas in the backyard. We could leave the sliding door open all night. Dinner and breakfast with the other guests gave us a chance to swap travel stories. After days of driving or hiking, it’s a lovely place to slow down and relax. A welcome change after big hotels packed with bus groups.
