Grande Fjord Hotel

The three-course meal at Restaurant Hyskje was excellent and good value. We were having dinner there when the cruise ship sailed past the port, visible from my room's little balcony, which has a great fjord view. It's a restaurant I'd say you have to try in Geiranger.

Breakfast was the standout, with a huge amount of food and really good quality. We had dinner there too, and although it was expensive even by Norwegian standards, it was excellent. We were checked in fairly quickly and got an upgraded room. It was well supplied with tea, soap, and towels, and most rooms seem to face the fjord. The car park was packed during our stay, so maneuvering in and out was tricky even with a fairly average-sized car. The shower and bath felt a bit old-fashioned.

After long days hiking, it was lovely to come back to the Skaggen suite at Grande Fjord Hotel and unwind. The suite was spacious but cozy, very clean, and had a gorgeous view. It came with the basics, including toiletries, a coffee maker and hot water dispenser, plus cutlery and dishes for eating in. The breakfast buffet had plenty of choices for different dietary needs, and there's a coffee and hot chocolate machine in the lobby around the clock. The hotel is a little outside the city center, but the shuttle was easy to use. We called for rides, and they picked us up or dropped us off within 30 minutes. Being a bit farther out also kept things quiet and peaceful. The staff were friendly, responsive, and made us feel well looked after. One day the elevator was broken, so we had to climb several floors to get breakfast. It was working again by checkout, when we had to bring our luggage up, and I don't mind stairs much anyway. We had a great stay for a few days, and I'd recommend the hotel to anyone vacationing in Geiranger.

Geirangerfjord really is the fjord of fjords, and the hotel has a lovely atmosphere, room, and view. I was glad I chose to spend two nights here, while I only stayed one night at each of the other places on my trip.
