Klækken Hotell

After a tiring seven-hour drive, we found the family room we'd booked, described and pictured with a double bed and single sofa bed, had been replaced by a room with three single beds. We went to reception politely to sort it out, but the staff were dismissive and unhelpful. They said that was all they had and left us to deal with it, so we felt frustrated and unwelcome. The hotel itself was old and not clean, and the staff's attitude was astonishing. This was an incredibly disappointing stay. A hotel is supposed to provide good service, and this place failed badly. Honestly, it wouldn't be worth staying here even for free. I'd strongly suggest looking elsewhere for a pleasant, hassle-free stay.

The staff were friendly and did everything they could to make us feel welcome. The garden is beautifully maintained, and breakfast was fine with nothing to complain about. Our room was clean, though outdated. There's a TV, but it's only a little bigger than an iPad, and the minibar was empty. You can buy drinks at reception. The corridors make the hotel's age more obvious, while the furniture and bed in the room disguise it a bit. The restaurant food was fine, but there's only a fixed three-course menu and it came very quickly, with about three minutes between courses, so the food seemed to have been prepared in advance. There's no charging station for electric cars. I share photos to show the place as it is now. It seems suited to company events or people with modest expectations. For a romantic weekend with a partner, I'd look elsewhere.

The beds were soft and really comfortable, and the hotel was clean with friendly staff. Breakfast was amazing, as were the pool and sauna. One downside: the TVs need upgrading. Still, one of the best hotels I've stayed at in Norway.

The building used to be a farm, and the peaceful setting, with a lovely view from the back patios and decks, was a real treat. They also serve a big, free Norwegian breakfast. We really enjoyed our stay and the site's history, except for the laundry bill. When we asked about laundry, we were told they could include a load with their usual washing. We didn't think to ask the price, and at checkout learned it was $50. That's the most expensive load of laundry I've ever done!
