Lampeland Hotell

We had to use the back entrance with our dogs because, we were told, some guests didn’t like dogs. The hotel is listed as dog friendly, and after staying with our dogs at plenty of hotels, we’d never run into this before. It left us feeling like second rate guests. Breakfast starts at 8 am, at least an hour too late if you’re hoping to get on the road early. The room was fine and standard for what we expected. Staff were friendly, though their customer service could use some work. Answers were brief and came with straight faces, no smile.

Staying at Lampeland Hotel felt like being welcomed into someone’s home. The food was excellent, and they’d clearly put thought into choosing wines that went well with the dishes. The town and hotel both turned out to be pleasant surprises. The town has fewer than 1,000 residents, yet it gets plenty of visitors. If you’re visiting Oslo, it makes a great day trip.

The food is what really makes this hotel stand out. Dinner was excellent, with large portions, everything seeming homemade, and a very, very good taste. I’d gladly stop in just to eat there sometime. I didn’t try either the burgers or the pizza. The rooms and hotel itself are quite okay, though some staff could use more practice with customer care. I’d suggest keeping the kitchen open later than 20:00, since closing then is at least an hour too early.

The Rotary club holds its meetings here, and I can see why: there are lots of comfortable spots for a chat, the rooms are nice, and the kitchen is good. Service is very friendly too. If you’re looking for a really good place to stay, this hotel is just what you need.
