The people at CMC really made our stay special. Alexandre, Irina, Åge, Tiphaine, and Rumiia were so welcoming and helpful that we felt at home, and nothing seemed to be a problem. The food was another highlight: breakfast was tasty, and dinner was good too. We were in House 5 in a shared bathroom room. There were plenty of showers and toilets, so it wasn't an issue, and both our room and the bathroom were very clean and had what we needed. There's also a nicely equipped kitchen. It's a little outside town, but the walk is pleasant, and we were lucky enough to see the northern lights each time. Taxis are reasonably priced if you'd rather not walk. Great value and a great team, 10/10 😀

Meeting people from all over the world made my stay at Coal Miners’ Cabin even more memorable. The staff were warm, welcoming, and always ready to help, and the accommodation was comfortable and well cared for. Everything was well organized, and the food was consistently very good. My fiancée arranged the trip as a surprise, and sharing it with her made it especially meaningful. It was the most beautiful vacation I've had, and a perfect way to celebrate my 40th birthday. Coal Miners’ Cabin was a truly special experience. I hope to come back for more adventures in Svalbard.

The breakfast was a real highlight. Get there early for the scrambled eggs and bacon, though the salmon, cold cuts, fruit, juice, and range of breads were all great too. Dinner is served buffet style, with one main and two sides, and you can see the menu at the front desk. During my four nights at Coal Miners' Cabin in October 2025, the staff were excellent and answered my questions helpfully. Special thanks to the French lady who helped me call the activity organiser to book a northern lights tour. I got to see the amazing lights that night. The kitchen and bathrooms were clean. Keep in mind that during my visit to Svalbard, tap water wasn't drinkable. You can get filtered water at reception or buy bottled water at the supermarket, about 60kr for 5L. A couple of small things from Cabin 1: there was no oven glove, and on the second floor, the bathroom at the end of the corridor had no hairdryer. CMC is a great guesthouse and I'd definitely return. It's a bit remote, about a 30 to 40 minutes' walk to the market.

Breakfast was good, and dinner portions were generous. The rooms were clean and warm, with comfortable beds, and the place delivered what I expected. Town is a bit of a walk away, but I found it easy and enjoyable. Walk quietly and you might see reindeer and artic foxes.

The bar had a great feel to it, and I met some interesting people there. I also loved breakfast, especially the smoked salmon, which I was practically living on. The location is a little out on the edge, but it's Svalbard, right? In summer it's an easy walk into the village centre.
