Scandic Narvik

The hotel is close to a shopping mall, and the rooms were clean. Breakfast was decent, with a separate area for guests with food allergies. I was especially glad to find whole avocados during my stay. There’s a nice skybar for looking at the northern lights, although the city lights may cause some light pollution.

The view over the city through the full-height glass was lovely. It’s a cozy rooftop bar with a calm feel, and the drinks were nicely presented. A relaxing spot after a cold day in Narvik. Highly recommend.

The breakfast buffet was included. There wasn’t a huge range of choices, but it was fine and I had no complaints. My guide considered it possibly the best hotel in Narvik. The rooms are clean and comfortable, though a little cramped. Shops and supermarkets are nearby, and it’s about a five-minute drive to the Artic Circle train station.

Breakfast was busy with plenty of guests, but the dining area never felt chaotic. It was the usual Scandic offering, consistent and good enough, perhaps a little better than the other Scandic breakfasts I’ve had lately. It still didn’t have anything extra, though. My room seemed to be a Superior Double, and I’m fairly sure it was larger than the one I booked. It had an angled layout with plenty of space for the bed, luggage, desk, and seating. The south/southwest view was lovely. The TV sat oddly low, while the bathroom was roomy and had a large shower. The bed was comfortable, the pillows just average. Temperature control worked, but it was 23°C at night and I had to turn it down. Blackout was excellent, helped by the winter darkness. Soundproofing was weaker: I heard doors slam, neighbors hanging up jackets, and loud bangs from nearby activity late in the evening. Check-in was quick and easy, and I got a high floor room far from the elevators. The receptionist didn’t say anything about an upgrade. A note to Scandic staff: please recognize guest status and tell us when we’ve been upgraded. I don’t ask for it, and top-tier guests should be told automatically. The hotel is fairly central, but right beside a busy road, so there’s noticeable traffic noise. For the price, it’s between a three and a four. I’ll give it a weak but deserved 4/5.
