Scandic Go, Grensen 20

I was worried after reading the earlier reviews, but we had a great experience. For the price, especially given Norway's prices and the location, it was a good deal. Our room was clean, had what we needed for a few days, and came with a beautiful view. The staff were always friendly and helpful, and breakfast was exceptional. A hotel can't repaint walls or replace carpets after every guest, so some signs of previous stays are to be expected. I especially appreciated the kitchen staff, who stayed kind and helpful even while they were busy keeping everything in order.

I used to love this place a few years ago, but it's really gone downhill. The rooms feel tired, carpets are dirty, some outlets don't work, and light switches are broken. Staff seem to have lost their friendliness too. We arrived to find maintenance work underway, which we hadn't been told about. It's a shame the Grensen has lost its charm. I'll go back to the other Scandic Hotels next time.

The free breakfast was excellent, plentiful, and very fresh, and the staff were really polite and helpful. The rest of the stay was a letdown: renovations on the floor above meant we had to change rooms. We also had to ask reception the day before if we wanted our room cleaned. I'd told the hotel we'd arrive early because of our flight, but still had to wait around for three hours before the room was ready.

Breakfast was the best part, with plenty of healthy choices and sweet things for anyone who likes them. The carpets looked heavily used, with spots and what seemed like bleach marks all over. Apart from that, the hotel was in great condition for what we paid, and the stay was nice.
