Thon Hotel Astoria

The staff were warm and welcoming, and the room was clean. Breakfast and the location were great. The pillows felt flimsy, though, and there was no kettle or hand soap. The shower was so tiny I could barely fit in it. I’d come back, but I’d bring my own pillow, kettle and hand soap. Someone in another room moved chairs around for four hours on both evenings, which I found odd.

What made this hotel stand out was how caring everyone was when I needed help. The day before checkout I was taken to hospital by ambulance. They held my room and all my luggage for nine days at a more than generous rate, so I had somewhere to return to after being discharged. The staff couldn’t have been more accommodating or kind. I’d absolutely recommend it. As an Australian, I found the rooms compact, but mine was exceptionally clean, centrally located and well appointed, with a kettle, great paint colors and curtains that close properly. The breakfast selection was excellent and fresh.

The complimentary breakfast was fresh, well organized and had good variety, which made mornings easy and felt like good value, especially in Oslo where breakfast can get expensive. The hotel’s central spot is another big plus, handy for walking to key places and getting around on public transport without hassle. Hotel Thor Astoria (Oslo) is a comfortable base for exploring the city.

I came to Oslo by train and left by train, so the location was superb. I had a single room, small and basic, but it had everything I needed. Breakfast was enormous and varied, just as I’d found at another Thon Hotel. I didn’t need much help, but whenever I contacted the front desk, the pleasant staff responded right away.
