The location of Grand Hotel Oslo by Scandic is hard to beat, right on Karl Johans gate with Oslo's sights, shops, and culture an easy stroll away. You can wander from the royal palace to a museum or café without much effort. The hotel has welcomed guests since 1874, including Nobel Peace Prize winners who stay in the iconic Nobel Suite, wave from the balcony, and go to the annual banquet downstairs. The rest of us can quietly act like we're here for world peace rather than the breakfast buffet. Inside, it's elegant but not stuffy, with historic character and modern comforts. The rooms feel luxurious, Artesia Spa is a nice place to unwind after a day out, and the fitness center is there for when you feel guilty about dessert. Grand Café has its own reputation too, with famous guests, a timeless atmosphere, and food that makes you stay longer than planned. Grand, historic, elegant, and a little intimidating in a good way. A stay might not win you a Nobel Prize, but it can make you feel important, which is close enough 🏨✨🏅

Breakfast at the Grand Cafe had plenty of variety and was nicely prepared. We stayed two nights and found the rooms clean and fairly spacious. Being right in central Oslo made getting around easy, and the vintage, artistic interiors gave the place a luxurious feel. A pleasant stay.

The bed was great, but this birthday treat for my 70th was a real disappointment. We couldn't book the rooftop bar for New Year's Eve, then found it closed on New Year's Day and again on our final night. Reception hadn't known it was shut and thought it might be closed all week. Breakfast had no decaf tea or baked beans. In the room, there was no milk, no decaf hot drink, no pen, and no complimentary water. There were only two English tea bags and two Earl Grey bags. I also found an empty water bottle beside the bed on day two, so the room hadn't been cleaned properly. The location looked superb, and our taxi driver called it Oslo's best hotel. I was excited to arrive and now wish I'd read the reviews first.

The staff were so friendly and helpful, always attentive, and made our stay relaxing and enjoyable. Our room was spacious, beautiful and well equipped. We also really liked the elegant feel and pleasant atmosphere. The spa, pool and gym were all excellent.
