Pellestova Apartments

The ski tracks go right past the hotel, and the staff knew the track preparation schedule well. Rooms were modern, stylish, and clean, and the staff were very pleasant. The gym is basic but has good equipment. One small downside: if you ski most of the day, the restaurant portions aren't nearly big enough.

The breakfast spread is a dream, and Pellestova is perfectly placed for cross-country skiing. But the hotel doesn't seem set up for sports people: there's no drying room and nowhere to lock your skis. The restaurant doesn't have pasta or potatoes. The most you get is 10 tiny gnocchi. I told reception I wanted some carbs, but all they suggested was an expensive three-course dinner. So tonight we'll have to settle for pizza again, for the last time.

It's a beautiful mountain setting at the top of Hafjell, with great cross-country ski trails all around. There are bars, cafes, and a restaurant in the hotel, and the food and wine cellar are great. The atmosphere feels very Norwegian: big-screen TVs, a fireplace, and people dressed in wool. A lovely place to experience Norwegian culture. The rooms are so-so and feel like they were renovated too cheaply, especially given the steep prices. I'd still definitely return to this beautiful place in the Norwegian mountains.
