Quality Hotel Airport Vaernes

The main issue was how cold the room stayed, even with the heating turned all the way up. The ventilation ran loudly through the night and pulled the heat out. It was also impossible to close the curtain without covering the heater, so you were always in view. The room and hallway were old and shabby, with a broken electrical outlet that could be dangerous for children. The bathroom was terrible. They wouldn't provide a kettle for my room, and wouldn't let me buy dinner from them. Having stayed in many countries and cities around Norway, I'd say this felt like a cheap hostel, not a hotel. The renovation looked about 20 years old, and the room didn't meet hotel standards. At most, I'd call it a one-star place. The atmosphere felt oppressive, and as a guest I got no attention beyond check-in.

The parking was a little tight, and summer heat is a problem since there's no AC. It was also noisy outside the windows. Still, good value overall. The rooms are new, with a comfy bed, pillows, and duvet, and breakfast has a pretty nice selection.

The hotel has a great location, though there isn't much to do nearby. Despite the airport-hotel name, getting to the airport means a taxi or about a 25-minute walk. There are some clear contrasts: the evening buffet and restaurant were great, while breakfast was very basic with too few choices. The rooms were well equipped but had no coat or jacket hangers. The restaurant area looked modern and formal, though many people were dressed in construction or work clothes.

It's very close to the railway station and within walking distance of the airport. The rooms and halls were clean and cozy. Getting breakfast early was really handy for travelers.
