The Hardangervidda national park museum is well worth a stop if you’re passing through. The staff specialise in biology, and there’s always a post-doctorate focused on falcons, butterflies, flies, mountain flowers or something similar, happy to share what they know. You can also stretch your legs on the trails that start by the parking lot. Luckily, the place went bankrupt: the owner owed money to staff, the person who prepared the ski slopes and road, and people who bought apartments that will never be built.

The lake views are stunning, and the rooms are large, clean and comfortable. The en suite rooms are very good, with plenty of communal space too. There are some visible water marks on the ceilings that don’t look great. Breakfast was good, but the advertised hot chocolate wasn’t available. When we asked, we were told the sign was old, which was strange. The restaurant has lots of space between tables, but service felt slow because staff had to walk so far. The vegetarian meal was below standard, though after we complained they gave us an extra bit of food.

I was staying here for work for three days, and each day felt worse than the one before. The rooms weren’t cleaned daily, and unless I specifically asked, they didn’t even change my towels. There was no TV or WiFi in the rooms, and the breakfast felt like a hostel’s. The TV in the main room worked on Tuesday, June 25, but not after that. For a place calling itself a 3 star hotel, this was a disappointment. It shouldn’t have even one star.

The rooms are basic but adequate, and the hotel is fairly simple. Their views depend on which way they face: some look out over the lake, some have only a partial lake view, and some have none. The lake and surrounding mountains make for a lovely outlook. Breakfast and dinner were both very good. Dinner comes in a dining room with windows all around and panoramic views in every direction, with a pianist adding a pleasant atmosphere.

Renovations are underway, so some rooms are fresh and new while others are very old. Mine needed a proper renovation, and they really should check rooms before assigning them: mine had a broken lock, with a warning sign outside. Luckily they moved me, but the new room had a light that didn’t work :D. The reception and bar area are really nice, the food was decent, and the service was nice. Ask for a new room when booking and you’ll have a nice stay :)
