Engø Gård

A lovely spot for getting away to recharge or hosting an event. It feels peaceful, and the setting is beautiful. The place seems flexible enough for all kinds of occasions.

The spa is great and the setting is wonderful, which made the restaurant such a letdown. The service was friendly, but the waiters didn’t know much, and the food was simply a disgrace: dry tomatoes and mozzarella with no olive oil or vinegar, chewy, undercooked veal buried in too much sauce, and a dry, uninspired dessert. It’s a shame, because the restaurant has so much potential. This place deserves a new chef.

The food was a highlight of my stay at Engø Gård. I tried the 9-course tasting menu, and every dish was flavorful, beautifully presented, and made with fresh local ingredients. You could tell the chefs had put care into each course. The local lamb was especially succulent, and the meal was far better than one I recently had at a two Michelin star restaurant in Vienna. I also loved the new spa. It’s modern and thoughtfully laid out, and the Sauna on the fjord was a special experience. Sitting in the warmth and looking out over the fjord felt peaceful and rejuvenating. The hotel is surrounded by lovely natural scenery, with views of greenery and the fjord. My room was cozy, comfortable, and well designed, with clear attention to detail, a very comfortable bed, and a welcoming feel. Engø Gård made for a memorable, relaxing stay. I’d happily come back, whether for a quiet break, the scenery, or the food.

We spent a night in the Solstue building for my birthday. The room was spotless, nicely designed, and suited our family of four perfectly. There are activities to choose from depending on the weather and who you’re with. We also had the 7-course dinner with the wine menu, including a starter and a refresher between courses. The food and wine were all excellent. We booked the Jazz lunch too, with a full course, a drink, and live Jazz music.
