Siddhi Home & Restaurant

We loved the rooftop, which looks out over Bhaktapur's best plaza, and the breakfasts were awesome. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the place was very clean for Nepal, and there was hot water all the time. It's a beautiful old Newar home with a stunning rooftop view, great for breakfast by the stupas or dinner in the restaurant. The location is amazing, right in Nyatapola square, in the heart of Bhaktapur. It's popular for Nepal's tallest temple, dedicated to goddess Siddhi Laxmi, whose name was also used for the guest house. One drawback is that reaching it means paying another entire $10 entrance fee to enter the temple area as a foreigner.

Siddhi Home & Restaurant has a terrace with city views and is 200 metres from Bhaktapur Durbar Square. Free WiFi is available throughout, and there’s a restaurant on site. Some rooms have a seating area, while all have private bathrooms with showers, slippers, and free toiletries. A flat-screen TV with cable channels is provided. The property has a 24-hour front desk and offers bike and car hire. Tribhuvan Airport is 7 km away.

I only visited the restaurant, so I can't comment on the guest house. The view over Taumadhi square was nice, but the food was disappointing, somewhere between bad and mediocre and below average. I might have had a tastier meal from a couple of street-vendor samosas. The "Buff ("buffalo") Wo" was a bland, unseasoned pancake with a few bits of ground meat, cooked so poorly that I wasn't sure it was buffalo. I added the complimentary store-bought curd just to give it some flavor. The vegetable curry served with it tasted reheated and premade, and was mostly potato. The "special siddhi home soup" wasn't special either, more like instant chicken soup with noodles, possibly exactly that.

The food was terrible and unhygienic, and the prices were very high. They even added VAT and SC for what they called service, despite the awful food. I checked older reviews and saw the same reply whenever people complained about the food: they apologized because the cook was absent due to illness and a kitchen helper had prepared it. I wish I could give zero or negative stars. Don't go; it'll ruin your mood and waste your money.
