Gorakha Hotel

The restaurant was a highlight, with good food, friendly staff, and a nice rooftop view. There’s also an elevator, so you don’t have to use the stairs. I stayed one night and found several room issues. All rooms are smoking rooms, and the smoke smell was noticeable. They seem to have been built with good intentions, but upkeep is poor, and the bathroom door wouldn’t close. The toilet cleaning faucet didn’t work either. I complained, but was told there were no other rooms available. Even though I had booked online and had a confirmed reservation, the receptionist didn’t know what I’d booked or how much I’d paid. The customer service was awful. They didn’t call to check when guests who booked would arrive, and they wouldn’t even answer the phone. We ended up going to bed hungry. I’d suggest finding somewhere else that’s worth your money.

From the terrace and rooftop you can see Itahari and the beautiful mountains to the north. The hotel is right downtown, which makes it a good fit for anyone wanting to stay in the city center. It has a strong brand heritage and is the only hotel of its kind, under Gorkha department Pvt Ltd. It can accommodate and serve both Nepali and international guests, especially visitors from India.

Right at Itahari Chowk, this was a handy place to stop while traveling in eastern Nepal. I stayed one night, and the helpful staff, excellent service, and fresh, tasty food made for a good stay. The room was clean, though a bit cramped and slightly smelly, possibly from smoking inside. Hot water in the washroom was great. Parking is limited, and the buffet breakfast didn’t offer much choice or machine coffee.
