The staff were all friendly and ready to help, and they always provided mineral water. Since we were travelling with a kid, they gave us a nicer room with a balcony. The room was clean and comfortable, with a hot shower and a nice bathroom. We also really liked the cozy garden restaurant, the good food, and the very good buffet breakfast. They made very good expressos too. The hotel is in a well located part of Thamel, but the area stays quiet.

A lovely rooftop and balconies make it easy to enjoy the city views or relax with friends. The rooms are big, clean, and full of character, at a very reasonable price. Bikas is amazing and makes you feel right at home. Hotel Encounter is five minutes from all the food, shopping, and nightlife you could want, yet away from the noise and chaos. I’ve stayed multiple times and have nothing but good things to say.

I called ahead to check if a room was available, and they said yes. After travelling a long way, I got there exhausted at around 11:30 PM, only to be told they were full and had no space for me. The reception man especially was extremely rude and unprofessional. There was no apology, help, or courtesy. It was one of my worst hotel experiences. If you care about your time, money, and peace of mind, I strongly suggest avoiding this place. They didn’t keep their word or treat their guests with respect.

I stayed here for a few days on my trip in Nepal. The location was great, the rooms were clean, and the bed was comfortable enough. Breakfast was basic but hit the spot before a day of sightseeing, and the customer service was great.

Having stayed in many hotels on my travels, I’d say this has been my favourite place to stay. The restaurant has a great range of food and impeccable service. Everyone was welcoming and attentive, and the free breakfast was presented well. There were two options, American breakfast and Indian breakfast, and both were so good. Thanks for making my time in Nepal so memorable. I’d highly recommend the hotel to anyone coming to Kathmandu.
