The lobby was traditionally decorated, and the desk staff were kind. Service was good during our one-night stay, but the room itself felt cramped and messy, with torn sheets and poor upkeep. The amenities were old and worn too. After sundown the noise from a few nearby loud clubs made it a disaster to sleep. Even though the hotel is walking distance from the main streets of Thamel, that noise made the location a poor fit for us. It was okay, but didn’t feel very inviting.

The cleaning staff were honest and good, and the security guard was kind and helpful. Still, my November stay was a very bad experience. The rooms were noisy, reception was very slow, and there wasn’t even a toilet brush. When I asked for hot water, they didn’t provide it until the next day.

Mr pushpa at the front counter was honest, understanding, and great at accommodating guests’ problems. The staff were very friendly in general, and the hotel is in a great location. As a guest, I felt it was good value for money.

The rooftop restaurant was impressive, with a lovely view and a really relaxing feel. I took a few photos because I loved the ambience. Excelsior is conveniently right in the middle of Thamel, and the rooms were clean and well maintained. The staff were friendly and the service was amazing. What more could you ask for?
