OYO 200 Tibet Peace Guest House

After three weeks of walking and climbing, this felt like a calm oasis and a nice way to treat yourself. For about USD 30-50, you get the comfort of a 4-5 star hotel right in the heart of Thamel. Breakfast has good vegetarian options.

We extended our stay by two nights to avoid moving hotels, even though the room lighting was broken. When we reported it, staff offered to move us to a lower floor instead of sending maintenance to fix the light. That felt like a downgrade, and we declined because moving rooms was a hassle. The lack of effort to repair the facility was concerning. We also asked for four extra bottles of water. On the first day they were free, but on the second we were suddenly told we'd be charged 120 NPR per bottle for the same request. There was no warning that the charge would change from one day to the next. It felt like the rules were being made up as they went, with no transparent, consistent service policy. Since we chose to extend our stay despite the broken facilities, I expected better treatment. I can't recommend KGH Thamel until its service standards become consistent.

KGH is calm and pleasant, but Riyoj made my stay truly memorable. At the rooftop bar “Studio By Artist” in Kathmandu Guest House, he's the bartender handling the outlet on his own. Even under pressure he stays calm, polite, and professional, and his hospitality is unmatched. The drinks he makes are the best I've ever had, even compared with places I've visited abroad. The warm, welcoming feeling I had at KGH was mostly because of him. He's very talented and dedicated, and deserves a higher position. KGH is lucky to have him, and I hope they never let him go. I'd highly recommend the hotel, especially a visit to the rooftop bar to experience Riyoj's hospitality.

A quiet sanctuary right in the heart of Thamel. The gardens are peaceful, the restaurant food and service are great, and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. Staff are friendly and helpful, and there's a very cute resident kitty 🐈 Highly recommend!
