I was always glad to come back here and rest between treks. It became my Kathmandu base camp, and the owner was flexible and helpful about finding a setup that worked for my trekking needs. For less than $5, I had a three-bed dorm, a clean, large room with a bathroom, hot showers, drinking water, wifi, and breakfast. It was very central, and among the budget options, this felt like luxury.

I didn't stay after finding bird droppings and several other stains on the sheets. The room smelled awful, and the shower didn't have a shower head. When I raised these problems with the host, he replied “🙏” and told me to cancel, even though the booking said cancellations weren't allowed. I had booked a mixed dorm for 8, but it was just me and one other man. The owners at the different hostel I moved to said they get lots of people complaining about the ramblers and moving there. I can't understand how this place has so many good reviews. Worst hostel I've ever been to.

Shalik and his family made me feel at home in this charming part of Kathmandu. He's a wonderful host, always around with advice or help, and even serves breakfast on the rooftop. While we were trekking, we could leave 20kg of luggage with him for free for 2 weeks, on the condition that we'd return to stay for the last days of our trip. It was a delight to see him again after traveling around Nepal. Sometimes the wind takes you somewhere unexpected, and Ramblers Hostel was one of those places for me. I highly recommend staying here, and thank Shalik and his family from the heart. Hope to see you again.

The beds were comfortable, and the dorm had a full toilet inside the room. Thamel is a perfect location, and the price was excellent. Salij was the best part, always courteous and ready to help. He suggested good places to visit and enjoy Nepalese food, and looked after our luggage while we were in the mountains. Comfortable place, nice people, great location.

The family running this place is so kind. The bed matters less when the people working there are this lovely. The owner is always around to help and give advice, and there’s laundry at the hostel. Breakfast is included or available, and you can eat on the sunny rooftop terrace. It’s in a very good location, and check-in is available 24 hours, so the owner can welcome you if your flight or bus arrives at night. The only downside was that the wifi sometimes didn't work properly.
