Even though I had to leave before 6 a.m., my hosts offered to pack breakfast for me. They were friendly and accommodating throughout, and I met lots of nice people while travelling solo. I really enjoyed staying at the Shangrila Boutique Hotel in Kathmandu and highly recommend this hostel.

The beds were so uncomfortable I could feel the springs, there was no hot water in the showers, and the Wi-Fi didn’t work in the rooms. The place felt depressing and had no atmosphere. They advertise a bar on Hostelworld, with a photo online, but all they sold when we arrived was soft drinks and water. There weren’t any dining options either, just a menu from a restaurant around the corner. At check-in there was barely any communication. They took our money and showed us the room, and I had to ask about breakfast and checkout. I understand we paid for a room and service, but I asked politely for a refund for one of our three nights because promised services weren’t provided. Staff refused any compromise. We were told management might be able to agree to something, but employees kept passing us around and making excuses that they couldn’t help. I don’t usually leave bad reviews, but I was extremely disappointed. If you want to be alone, this place may suit you. As a tourist looking for travel advice, it wasn’t the experience I wanted.

We had a great time at Shangri-La hotel, and the rooms and location were good. There were some problems with our shower, but it wasn’t a big deal since we could use the communal one. The staff were all lovely. Receptionist Vikrant helped us out many times and was always kind and interested. We were also able to leave our remaining bags at the hotel while we went trekking. Their in-house travel company helped us plan a great Langtang valley trek, and we were very happy with our guide Sagar (SK). We were warmly welcomed from the start, and would definitely recommend Shangri-La to others 😊

A great option for a relaxed stay in the heart of Kathmandu. Everything was top notch, especially the staff. I interacted most with Keshav sir, Vikrant, Vineeta and Prem. If you like slow mornings, make sure you choose the breakfast option. 10/10 place to stay in KTM.

The breakfasts were honestly my favourite part of the day, and the rooms are really sweet and cozy. I LOVE THIS PLACE, my favourite stay in Kathmandu so far. The atmosphere is SUCH a good one, and the staff are super awesome (Bikram I love u). It’s tucked just far enough from Thamel’s busy streets that it doesn’t get too noisy. Will 100% be back.
