Hotel Shanker-Palatial Heritage Kathmandu

The quiet garden was a welcome break from busy Kathmandu, and the food was delicious. Staff were professional and provided top-notch hospitality. Hotel Shanker is a heritage property in the heart of the city, with spacious, spotless rooms and a real sense of luxury. Its grand architecture and historic character made a strong impression on me. I truly enjoyed the atmosphere, and for a royal-style stay with quality service, this is a great choice.

The last-minute planning could have made the trip stressful, but the concierge and hotel team arranged our local travel smoothly, including a mountain flight to see Mount Everest from the air. We’ll never forget that experience. They also upgraded us to a Heritage Suite and included airport transfers, a lovely gesture. The suite had lots of light and space, a fully equipped kitchen, and felt comfortable and well cared for. The meals were good throughout; breakfast could have been a little better, though dining overall was very satisfying. Service was attentive, and everyone was helpful. I stayed here at the end of 2025 and into the new year, and it became one of my most memorable trips. Hotel Shanker is a preserved royal heritage palace, owned by the same family for generations and thoughtfully turned into a hotel. The grand building is in a prominent part of Kathmandu. I was told even major earthquakes hadn’t affected its construction. Artefacts and paintings are carefully displayed through the corridors, shared spaces, and rooms. The place brings historic charm together with modern comfort, and made me feel like royalty. I’d happily return, and recommend it to anyone visiting Kathmandu who wants history, comfort, and warm hospitality.

The best part for me was how quiet it felt, even in busy Kathmandu. My wife, kids and I stayed in room 722, and the kids loved it. Shanker Palatial Heritage was a great experience, with a nice mix of professional service and heritage character.

The restaurant costs a bit more, but the food is seriously tasty. Breakfast was incredible too, with local dishes, Indian food, and choices from around the world. The staff were so kind and helpful. It’s a historic building that’s been turned into a hotel, and they’ve done a brilliant job with the renovation.
