The family running this little hotel are what make it special. They were warm, welcoming, and quick to help, and the service was hard to beat. It sits right in the middle of Thamel but was still reasonably peaceful. The rooms are spacious though basic, and the bathrooms feel a bit dated and plain, but that seemed fitting for Kathmandu. Breakfast was good quality. We didn't eat dinner at the restaurant, though it was often busy. A clean, straightforward place I'd recommend.

I felt welcome from the very first day, and Hotel Utse has a charm of its own. You can sense its long tradition of hosting people from around the world. The staff were friendly and reliable, and whenever I needed help getting around the city or the country, they gave me the information I needed. My room was comfortable, clean, and nicely furnished. I loved the interior and the atmosphere, and it felt like the owners had put a lot of care into the place. The furniture and decor look lovely. The rooftop was a peaceful spot to relax and take a break. The restaurant food was fresh, tasty, and fairly priced. I was very happy here and would definitely recommend Hotel Utse. I hope to come back soon ☺️

The roof terrace is a calm little escape from busy Thamel, with flowers and a pine tree upstairs. Downstairs, the scent of juniper adds to the feel of this unusual hotel. The restaurant on the ground floor has been serving excellent food for decades, and the range of Nepali and Tibetan dishes makes it a must for anyone visiting Kathmandu. We came back to Hotel Utse after staying there on earlier trips to Nepal, and choosing it for part of our honeymoon was an easy decision. What I remember most is the staff, whose warmth and helpfulness made it easy to connect with Nepali and Tibetan culture. This hotel and restaurant are a real source of peace and happiness.
