Hotel Green Tara

I've been coming to Green Tara Hotel for 25 years, and I'm happy to be back at my longtime home in Pokhara. Mr Giri, the host, is happy to arrange trips or services you might need, all at a good price. It's close to restaurants, shops, and Lake Fewa. This family-run hotel is quiet and tucked away on a cul-de-sac, with dramatic views of Machapuchare (aka Fishtail Mountain), even from the stairwell. The rooftop views are wonderful, and there are two balconies looking over the local gardens around the hotel. The food is delicious, room service is fast, and the dining room is a nice size. Rooms vary: some are family-sized with mini-bars and a fridge, others have double or twin beds, and there's a penthouse on the roof. The mattresses are good and it's easy to sleep here. Each room has its own wi-fi, and the floors and staircases are old-school marble with crown molding.

The old guy at reception was rude and demanded extra money without giving any reason. The rooms were awful too, with no hot water, soap, or other basic amenities. This is the worst hotel in Pokhara, and I'd recommend avoiding it. There are better options at these prices with better facilities.

The location is perfect for exploring Lakeside and the lake. I stayed a day before and a day after my 4-day trek in July 2025, and both visits went well. Before the trek, I had a fan, air conditioning, a nice bed, and a good view. They stored my luggage for free while I was away, without expecting me to book another night, and locked it up when I left at 4:30 AM. I got the same room for my return night. The bed is quite firm and the shower head needs replacing, but with the air conditioning and fan the room was cool enough for a good night's sleep. I also had lunch there at a reasonable price and booked an airport taxi through the front desk for a reasonable 1,000 rupees, without having to negotiate with a driver.

The WiFi was good, and there's fantastic halal food nearby, try their zinger! But I'm still wondering what I paid for. The room had no air conditioning, fridge, view, bidett, or real mattress. It wasn't soundproof, there was no hot water, and noisy neighbors kept me awake until midnight.
