BK Hostel

The room itself was great, with a double bed, a window and my own fridge, and it was very comfortable. Later, after I watched an obscure political video on my phone and got up for a shower late at night, I heard someone playing that same video in the lounge. My friend got up early to pick his girlfriend up from the airport and found the same person on a computer in the lounge. I believe he was using the open hostel Wi-Fi to hack into people’s devices. Be warned, they need better Wi-Fi security.

The staff were nice, and the kitchen had lots of things for cooking pretty much anything. The beds were clean and super comfortable, so we slept well for the first two nights. The place looks okay at first, but the buildings and rooms are old. On the weekend, the nightclub next door played music so loudly that our room shook. It was horrible and impossible to sleep, so we left in the morning. Don’t stay here on weekends, it’s awful.

The room was tiny, and every window seemed to look straight at another building, which felt claustrophobic. Carpets were stained, and the bathroom and kitchen smelled bad. The living room had a few crappy glass tables and one awful little sofa. The surrounding roads felt rough, with lots of unsavoury types around. There was a fridge in the room, the facilities were fairly clean, and the kitchen was well equipped. It’s right in town. But this was the least social, least friendly hostel I’ve ever been to. There were no social events, and reception staff barely said a word. The only person we really spoke to was one odd guy who seemed to live there permanently. I wouldn’t go back.

There’s no elevator, and reaching your room means climbing three flights of stairs. It also didn’t feel like a regular hostel, with many long-term residents who made the place stressful and unwelcoming. Noise was wild: nightly drinking, yelling and loud music inside, plus karaoke and bar sounds from K Road nearby. If you need to rest, relax or get decent sleep, this isn’t the place. Avoid the stress and frustration, choose one of the many other CBD accommodations and enjoy the city.
