The location is perfect for sightseeing in the CBD, and the room was clean with nice facilities. We slept really well, and the bed and shower were both lovely. Breakfast had great quality and lots of variety, with the omelet bar a huge bonus. We had mixed feelings about the welcome. The front desk person didn’t explain anything and didn’t seem welcoming, it felt like pay and go. We paid an extra fee for arriving 2-3 hours early, even though we were exhausted from the flight and the room was ready. I understand people have off days, but we’d have liked at least a short introduction to the hotel. We missed the pillow bar because of that and only learned about it the next morning, though it sounded like a lovely touch. We’d also paid for a port view. From the 9th floor, most of it was blocked by the building opposite. We could still see a little ocean, but the view mattered to us, so we were a bit disappointed.
The views were the best part of our stay at the Hotel Grand Chancellor. We spent a lot of time just sitting by the window and looking out instead of watching TV. We were on floor 11, with a great bed, good bedside lights, an awesome walk-in wardrobe and an amazing bathroom. The location is central, the housekeeping was top notch, and the check-in and checkout staff were lovely and helpful. Can’t wait to come back.
Mark gave us great dinner recommendations: Kingfish and Snapper for mains, then Tiramisu for dessert. It turned out to be an amazing meal that felt carefully thought out. The price was more than fair, and I thought it was better value than other Auckland hotels I’ve stayed at. The place wasn’t crowded, which made the stay peaceful. The room was clean and comfortable, and the whole place had a relaxed, welcoming vibe. I’d definitely recommend it if you want a quality quiet spot.
The food and drinks were superb, though I wish the cafe and restaurant stayed open later in the evening. There are also some very nice restaurants close by, and downtown and the waterfront are a reasonable walk away. My wife and I really enjoyed the Grand Chancellor. The rooms were beautiful, staff were consistently friendly, and I was surprised by how much equipment the gym had. Great experience, and I’d highly recommend booking here if you’re in Aukland.
The room was spacious, with plenty of tables, and the beds and pillows were comfortable. Decor was simple and nice, check-in was easy, and the price felt reasonable. The location is handy for the skydrive direct to the airport, the intercity bus, skytower, weta and casino. There’s a convenience store and churches nearby too. The person looking after the outdoor garden on the 11th floor deserves credit. Some surfaces were dusty, including the top of the toilet and a few light switches. I know most people probably don’t notice the switches, and the beds and floors still looked clean. For some reason, they serviced the room even though I’d put out the do not disturb sign.
