Mövenpick Hotel Auckland

After a busy day in Auckland, I always find the Mövenpick Auckland calm and welcoming. The rooms are reliably clean and comfortable, and the staff are friendly and professional, so everything feels easy. Breakfast has lots of tasty choices, too. It’s my favorite place to stay in the city, and I’m already looking forward to going back on my next work trip.

The air conditioning barely worked, so the room and public areas stayed uncomfortably hot and poorly ventilated. Breakfast was disappointing too, with a crowded dining room and food quality and choice that didn’t match the price. The room felt poorly maintained and wasn’t clean enough for a hotel in this range. There was a lovely view, but it couldn’t make up for those problems. Check-in itself was quick, and the staff were friendly and proactive. They even kept our bags for a whole day, which was genuinely useful. Still, the room, breakfast and ongoing ventilation issues made the stay fall short, and I’d choose somewhere else next time.

The view from Boda Restaurant on the 13th floor was a real highlight, and the hotel is centrally located, so getting around was easy. The whole team was welcoming and friendly. Carmel at reception deserves a special thank you for her warm smile and helpfulness. We had a great stay and would happily return.

We found the hotel a handy base for visiting several places around the city, and it was easy to leave our hire car there for the few days we needed it. From 3-4 pm, the daily snacks became a little ritual we looked forward to. Breakfast was another highlight, with fresh, varied choices, staff happy to handle requests, and top floor views in the morning. We stayed 12 nights in a queen room with city views. It was roomy enough for that length of stay, housekeeping came each day, and we always had the essentials we needed. Everyone we dealt with was polite, courteous and easy to approach. They made things feel smooth and welcoming. The room key card needed resetting several times, though. That was stressful, especially for my wife, who wasn’t sure each time whether it would work in the lift or at the room. Apart from that hassle, we had a comfortable and pleasant stay.
