Parkside Hotel & Apartments Auckland

We had a great five-night stay. The room was clean, and the beds and pillows were really comfortable. We even had air-conditioning, which we hadn’t expected, and enjoyed a dip in the pool to cool off. Thanks to the staff for making it such an enjoyable visit.

The rooms were very clean and the service was excellent. It’s a quiet spot, with balconies facing the park, and well placed for Queens st. and Newmarket. The hotel isn’t new, but the bed was comfortable, the rooms have balconies, and there’s a whirlpool shower, hottob and outdoor swimming area. For the price, I wouldn’t complain. The aircon wasn’t working, which could be annoying at 30 degrees, though at 25 we had no issue. They take a deposit at check-in and return it after check-out. I’d have liked the duvet to be properly inside a cover instead of laid over a sheet, and a toilet brush in the bathroom. Maybe that’s very European of me, but it has its advantages.

Smitri at reception went out of her way to find us parking, even though we’d booked through a third-party service and hadn’t reserved a space. She was polite and understanding, especially since we were travelling with a toddler. We enjoyed the pool, and the clean room was well maintained. The kitchenette was a bonus. Housekeeping even serviced the room after 5 PM, which we really appreciated. We’d be happy to book again.

The beds were comfortable and the location is good, and reception service was great. But we booked for the pool and its location by the park, and the pool was closed for maintenance in the middle of summer. The rooms, halls and lifts were like an oven because the air con was out across the building. We were told it wouldn’t be fixed until 2026. Neither issue was mentioned when we booked or checked in. They said booking.com wouldn’t show the air con or pool information on its third-party site, but customers have a right to know. The $200 bond felt steep for a room with mouldy grout, especially when the photos looked fresh and clean. They offered continental breakfast as a goodwill gesture. This could be a really good hotel if it were maintained properly. I’d have gladly paid a bit more for somewhere nicer.
