We came back later that evening and found out our room had been given to other guests, even though we'd paid for two nights and our booking period wasn't over. The same thing happened to my sister during that period too, so it wasn't just our booking. Pauline was dismissive, and at first they refused to refund us. We were told the business had been sold and the owners were leaving soon, and that she "didn't care," as if the problem wasn't theirs anymore. It took a written complaint to resolve things. In the end we accepted $10 less than we'd paid just to put it behind us. A really stressful and disappointing experience. I'd strongly suggest checking your booking arrangements carefully.

I'm here while my beloved little furry man is in hospital at the amazing clutha vets, so having a clean, well cared for room has made things a bit easier for not very happy reasons. This motor inn is lovely, and they had tea, coffee and hot chocolate out for me. Top notch, I'll definitely stay again.

Pauline and James grew up in Balclutha and know the area well, which was really useful. This is a great little stop on a trip to the lower South Island, with clean, quiet rooms that suited what we needed.

We didn't stay the night, but I'm grateful for how friendly and welcoming the owners were. During our long drive stop, they let me use their own bathroom, then shared a map and leaflet with suggestions for walks and landmarks. We had a nice chat too. Thanks!
