During our 25 days in NZ, The George in Christchurch was easily our favourite hotel. The boutique feel came with friendly, professional staff and thoughtful details throughout. Our room had all the comforts we needed, breakfast was great, and the decorations were tastefully done. They made our Christchurch stay feel heartwarming. Our nine-year-old son loves his George teddy, which has somehow become his new bedtime buddy. Such a nice touch.

The service was terrific, and parking was astonishingly easy for a city hotel. We also really appreciated the free laundry onsite. We enjoyed The George and would return. The rooms are stylish and comfortable, though a little smaller than the online photos led us to expect. My husband thought breakfast was good, but I'm not a big breakfast eater and didn't want to spend so much on it. There's nowhere very close to just get a coffee, and I wish the hotel offered a small breakfast option.

The gourmet experience dinner and breakfast at Bistro 50 were a letdown, though the barman made some great cocktails. Free parking and charging were useful. We were by the botanical gardens, with a nice, friendly receptionist, and appreciated the welcome coffee. Our premium executive room overlooking the gardens was small and didn't have much of a view. The bed was comfortable, but the shower pressure was low.

The staff made sure they did everything they could to make our stay perfect, and we got a very warm welcome from everyone. The accommodation was first class, the restaurant offerings were lovely, and breakfast was especially delicious. A fantastic hotel.

The suite's view wasn't great, and I think breakfast should cover everyone registered in the room, especially when it was already included for two of our three guests. At check-in they offered complimentary tea, soft drinks and other beverages, but none arrived in our room. On the good side, check-in was easy and the concierge staff were friendly and accommodating. There was a laundry room for travellers, plenty of water in the room, a modern bathroom and clean beds.
