Anchor Lodge Motel Coromandel

The upper-level rooms sit among native bush and have a tree-hut feel. Everything was spotless and comfortable, and it was a warm, friendly welcome. Cafes and restaurants are a perfect five-minute stroll away. For a more energetic walk, I highly recommend the 15-minute climb to the pa site lookout on the lovely bush track behind the motel. The views over the harbour and across the Firth of Thames to Waiheke Island are absolutely stunning.

Sue, the manager, was absolutely fabulous. The room was very clean, the bed was comfortable, and the kitchenette had everything you need. It's a five-minute walk into Coromandel town, which is small but has a great pub and restaurant, coffee shops, a pharmacy, and a health centre. There's lovely scenery all around and plenty to see and visit.

We got in at 8pm after reception had closed, then left at 9am to continue our journey, so I can't really comment on the facilities. The proprietor wasn't there when we arrived, but the key and clear lodge instructions were ready for us, and we dropped the key off in the morning without any issue. It's an easy walk into town, with lovely cafes and a nice restaurant. If we'd had more time, I would have stayed longer.

We had to cancel our booking two weeks ahead because of unforeseen circumstances. I appealed to the motel owners for a refund on compassionate grounds, but they refused. You're better off staying somewhere else. UPDATE TO REPLY: I've told you FOUR TIMES that I had to cancel the holiday and CANNOT CHANGE THE DATES. I don't know how to make this clearer. You've done absolutely nothing to help. I can post screenshots of our conversation where you say I cannot cancel, even though I'm two weeks out from the booking, which contradicts the rubbish you're trying to spin to save face in your reply. I've also screenshotted your response about the 2 weeks policy. Today is two weeks out, so you should be honouring the cancellation request. At this point I'll take it higher with the booking company and ask my bank to block charges from you. LET THIS BE A WARNING TO ANYONE LOOKING TO BOOK HERE!! The owner argues in the comments of multiple bad reviews, and you can see why I don't think this place is worth your time or money!!
