The room had everything we needed to feel at home, from its thoughtful design and generous space to the very comfortable bed and cosy gas fireplace. We spent a wonderful couple of nights at Fiona and Alistair’s lovely Lodge, among vineyards with views of the Lake. It’s a great spot for exploring Cromwell, wineries, and the Lake Dunstan bike trail. We also enjoyed meeting Fiona and Alistair, who are lovely people and know a lot about the area. We’d recommend staying for 2-3 nights.

Fiona and Alistair made us feel so well looked after, with hospitality that went from breakfast to wine and pizza. We loved staying here while making our way around the South Island of New Zealand. Highly recommend!

My wife and I have traveled to NZ for the first time, and I can honestly say we could have spent all three weeks at Mt. Michael Lodge and been perfectly happy. The room was the most comfortable and spacious we’ve ever stayed in, with a postcard view over Lake Dunstan and the vineyards of Otago wine country. Fiona and Alistair are two of the kindest, smartest people I’ve met. I’m usually never short of words, but it’s hard to fit what a wonderful place this is into a sentence or two. Do yourself a favor and visit the Otago/Cromwell region of New Zealand’s South Island, and stay at Mt. Michael Lodge if you can.

The room and suite were exceptional, and the food tasted like it was made with love using natural ingredients from the property. The garden tomatoes were especially delicious. During our two rest days here, we biked by the lake, hiked to the 45th parallel, went wine tasting, and spent time at the Mt Michael pool, hot tub, and courtyard. Ask for winery recommendations. Fionna and Alistair were wonderful and shared their knowledge as we asked them about all sorts of things. We’ve traveled all over the world, and this place will always be special to us.
