Sans Souci Inn

We stayed at Sans Souci with our two young daughters, and all of us loved it. The communal facilities were impeccable, and the house was clean, comfortable, beautiful, and well set up. The composting toilets are a bit like a long drop, but they don’t smell bad at all. The inn is made from traditional mud bricks and plaster, with terracotta tiles, a lovely garden with fruit trees, and a great sandpit for little ones. It’s right by the beach, close to shops, and a short drive from Pohara town centre. It felt a bit like somewhere posh on the Mediterranean. I’d absolutely recommend it.

The steak was cooked so well we didn’t need a steak knife, and I loved the accompaniments. Desserts were a highlight too, especially the chocolate truffles. A lovely evening, with lovely staff. The chef is a very talented lady.

Reto, Vera and their crew are warm people who give friendly, superb service. We always enjoy staying with them, and the family room is our favourite for the extra privacy. It’s always clean and tidy, and the food is wholesome, organic, and delicious. The place is perfectly positioned for exploring all of Golden Bay. For us, it’s the only place to stay here. Relaxing with a capital R.

We’ve been coming to the Sans Souci In for years and can’t speak highly enough of it. It’s a peaceful place, beautiful, tranquil, comfortable, clean, and welcoming. The owners and staff are all very friendly and helpful. Geoff
