ASURE Aspiring Court Motel Haast

No air conditioning, and opening the doors or windows brings in lots of sandflies, so the room gets stuffy. They do provide fly spray. It’s an old, basic motel, but neat and has what you need.

Haast itself doesn’t have much to offer, but if you need to stop there, I’d recommend this hotel. Our room was spacious and very clean, and it had the best kitchen we’ve had in a motel in NZ. If you have time, head to Jackson's Bay for Blue Cod at the Craypot. It’s amazing.

The hosts were so welcoming and helpful, and the facilities were great. It’s close to everything and the cleanest backpackers I’ve ever seen. The neighbours were noisy until the early hours, though I guess that’s to be expected. Thank you!

The host was kind and friendly, and the room was very clean. Still, this was the most expensive motel on our three-week trip and probably the worst value, as well as the least enjoyable. The dated interior had no charm. The room had a strong smell, like it had just been sprayed with loads of Glade air freshener. Getting fresh air meant letting in the area’s huge sandflies. The blinds are very sheer, so bear that in mind if you or your kids need a dark room to sleep, especially with the late summer nights. We were beside some kind of toilet block, which was really noisy too. And those ten tiny milk capsules? Management needs to catch up with the times. Come on, it’s 2025!
