The Aquarius Motor Inn

We cancelled and left right away. It’s the worst motel I’ve seen in NZ, with nonexistent customer service and a smelly room that didn’t meet expectations. Stickers were peeling off the bathroom door and walls. The “hand soap” was in a shampoo bottle, the shower was warped and falling apart, and there was no hairdryer or iron. The couch was covered with a bedsheet that had paint splatters on it. We booked because of the pool, but it wasn’t functioning. Such a disappointment. Our kids would rather have stayed in the car.

I only stayed one night, but I’d go again. The kitchen area being separate was great, though the bed was hard, the TV was small for the room, and the car park was tight.

I was in Room No. 5, and it was in extremely poor condition. The bin was full of used condoms, making it look as though sex workers had used the room before. There was a strong, unpleasant smell as soon as I walked in. The carpet was very dirty, with stains on the floor and bed. A terrible experience, and I don’t recommend this motel at all.

The onsite manager and his wife were hospitable and friendly, and the beds were comfy. The towels and linen were clean, as were the basic kitchenette supplies and utensils. There was more toilet paper than I’ve ever seen, plus clean towels, a rubbish bag and toilet paper were refreshed daily. The rooms were run down, with stained carpets, broken cupboard doors and badly placed a/c. The pool isn’t available, so it should be removed from the website and accommodation booking sites.
