I was only in the area for an event in new Plymouth and found this place on Expedia because it was the closest option available. I feel like I won the lottery, and only wish I'd known how lovely it was so I could have stayed longer. Linda was waiting for me when I arrived late, which I really appreciated. The room was beautiful and so clean, with historic details that gave it a lot of charm. I hardly wanted to touch anything because it was that nice. There was a continental breakfast in the morning, and since I was the last guest to leave, I got to hear about the lodge's history and how Linda became a B&B owner. I also toured the grounds and saw the Event Space and extra private lodges. Linda and her small team take great care of the buildings, grounds, and catering. I'll be recommending Tairia Lodge to anyone visiting this part of New Zealand. You really have to see it for yourself, but I don't think you'd be disappointed.

Linda was wonderful to work with from the booking and planning right through to our wedding day. Backyard Catering handled the food at our property in New Plymouth, and it was so good that all our guests were talking about it. The bar staff were fantastic too, with service that went above and beyond. I can't recommend Linda and her team enough.

Tairoa Cottage was a perfect, beautiful place to get ready for my wedding weekend, with a really thoughtful design. The breakfast selection looked so cute, though nerves meant I couldn't eat any, so I can't say how it tasted. Linda gave us fantastic service. We're already talking about coming back for our anniversary.

The food at our wedding was delicious, and guests also commented on how lovely and inviting the setup looked. The Backyard Catering crew were professional, helpful and efficient, with lots of thoughtful little touches. Really good value too. I'd absolutely recommend them.

The cafe was charmingly decorated, with tables and upright chairs as well as a sofa and armchair area, all spaced apart. On a fine day there are tables on the outdoor deck, and the cakes were nicely displayed. It was easy to see the drinks selection. I got a savoury pinwheel to take away, and it came beautifully packed in a cardboard box with a wooden fork. There are also gardens to stroll through, with quirky old decorations tucked away in quiet corners.
