Beachfront Hotel

Our room was a little dated and on the small side, but it was spotless and had all we needed. The bed was comfortable and the shower was great, making it good value. The place is easy to find, has plenty of parking, and is as close to the beach as you can get. We’d stay again.

Fay at reception and the front-of-house staff were awesome. We checked in, but ended up moving to a local motel that offered Sky TV for a much cheaper room rate. At the rates being charged, I’d expect the hotel amenities, including Sky TV and the option to charge meals from the in-house restaurant to the room. We paid Auckland prices in Hokitika, so owners should be providing what a hotel is meant to deliver.

The location is great, with food, shops and a supermarket easy to get to. The room, though, wasn’t clean, with plenty of dust and areas that looked like they’d been dusted around. The Wi-Fi was poor, and there was no way to connect our device to the TV. I’ve never stayed at a four-star hotel where you have to put a sign out to get the room serviced. The next day we hadn’t put one out because we hadn’t left the room yet, but the cleaner opened the door without knocking and walked straight in while some of us weren’t dressed. When they came back the following day with towels, we were leaving in ten minutes, so I asked them to return later. They seemed really annoyed. Reception wasn’t helpful when I raised the room servicing issue. I’d avoid the restaurant given the price and food quality. They even charge $2.50 for a takeaway box, which is ridiculous!

We had breakfast and it was good. The location is fantastic, and with beautiful sunny summer weather, the room temperature was fine too. Room 426 on the third floor was beautiful with a perfect ocean view. The only downside was the awful Wi-Fi.
