Kaikoura Seaside Lodge

I was very disappointed after seeing all the excellent reviews. I stayed for three nights and didn't see any staff or receptionist the whole time, apart from a few teenagers cleaning the toilet one day. The room was okay, but very small and cramped. Kitchen appliances and utensils were old and broken, and the soap dispensers and toilet roll holders didn't work. The bathrooms and kitchen had the most revolting smell of cheap industrial cleaning products. Maybe it's alright for a young person after a shoestring stay, but otherwise do yourself a favour and find somewhere else in this beautiful town.

It's on the budget side, and you can feel that during your stay. There were often no staff at the desk, so check-in felt a bit odd. Still, it's a good base for Kaikora activities and walks. The location is excellent, and the window has a beautiful view.

The view from here is absolutely breathtaking. I stayed one night in a dorm, found the check-in easy, and the rooms were clean and spacious. It was nice to see a family run business, which you don't come across much these days. I'd definitely stay again.

The staff were so friendly and helpful, and we got a transfer with the nicest Italian guy. Our room had a beautiful view, with toilets and showers just beside us upstairs. The little town was amazing. We went whale watching and ate out both nights, at the whaler and why not cafe. Thanks for making our stay so lovely :))
