VR Rotorua Lake Resort

The location is excellent, and I'd recommend booking a room near here. Our room was good, but it needed a lot of cleaning. The bathroom was okay, though it hadn't been tidied properly.

I left my headphones behind, and when I called, the receptionist had already put them aside for me. She even went to the post office herself to mail them back, which really touched me. Thanks so much. We'd put together a temporary itinerary and hadn't expected to find a hotel this good for such a low price. The location is fantastic, and the hot spring park isn't far by car. We booked two twin rooms, with beds about 1.5 meters wide, and I slept so well. Parking was convenient too. I'll stay here again next time I'm in Rotorua.

The owners are parked in the breezeway, and it looks like a large family lives there. Reception was often unattended, and you can't drive through. There was plenty of parking and the pool looked clean. Our room had a good fridge and microwave, plus basic cutlery and dinnerware, but no toaster. It was cheap and dated, but good enough. We stayed four nights, and the room was clean with comfortable beds. There's no air conditioning. The windows open at ground level, so they didn't feel secure. The room wasn't serviced at all during our stay, so I had to ask reception for clean towels and rubbish bin liners. They provided a bar of soap and some body wash, but no other toiletries. No breakfast or meals were offered.

The place is advertised as having a breakfast buffet, but that's completely false. The facilities aren't even on the premises. Cleanliness was poor: there was lots of mold, cobwebs, and tiles and ceramics in the facilities that looked like they hadn't been cleaned with much care. The duvet covers were very low quality, just sheets thrown over the top that left stained duvets showing. I don't recommend it.
