Travelling by myself and without a car, I arrived on Waitangi Day. The motel was beautiful and had everything I needed, with supplies replenished every day. I loved the bed, my body just sank into the mattress. There's a fish and chip shop about a two minute walk down the street, across from the motel, which worked well for a non-driver needing a meal. They also have a pet friendly unit. Thank you, Lily and team. I'll definitely stay here again when we have the Napier mahjong tournament.

My kids enjoyed the pool area, and we liked our stay overall. We were in the one bedroom room for three nights. The rooms could do with an update, and the shower pressure wasn't very good. On our first night, though, there were noises in our room that sounded like someone was watching us sleep.

The room was tidy and smelled clean when we arrived, and the staff were friendly. After that, there wasn't much to like. The decor is dated, and the paint job looks rushed, with spots where they didn't use masking tape and paint got onto other surfaces. The water damaged lino was sticky for reasons I'd rather not know. In the toilet room, the wallpaper was peeling under a bad paint job, and there was a hole showing the pipes with mould growing there. I also found mould in a corner of the window frames and by the fridge seal, which was starting to rip and needs replacing. From unit 6, the road noise was quite bad, and the shower pressure was very average. I guess you get what you pay for.

I spent seven days in a clean, comfortable, quiet one bedroom unit. It was close to the city and local shops, and I thought it was great value. Highly recommend.

A good, affordable place with good service and a convenient location. It's less than 5 km from the Napier Soundshell, so it works really well for New Year celebrations like the city's fireworks.
