The rooms were good, and my double had a view over the bay as well as the garden. The place was quite clean, with a nice kitchen, free tea and cereal, a comfortable lounge, and a garden where herbs were growing. It’s entirely self check-in, so there isn’t much of a front desk or hostel atmosphere.

It’s in a great spot with lovely views, and everything was very clean and tidy. Noise carries easily, so bring earplugs. Tea, coffee, and breakfast items were available, though there was no milk during our stay.

Best hostel of my four weeks in NZ! The room decor was lovely, and that massage chair in the common area was heaven after a long drive. Ommmgggg!

The location isn’t ideal, but it’s only a couple of minutes’ walk. This is the best backpacking hostel I’ve stayed at in the South Island so far. The beds are super comfortable, the kitchen has everything you might need, and the facilities are clearly well looked after, with lots of thought in the little details. Penguins are the theme throughout the house.

This has been my favorite hostel in NZ so far. It felt more like staying in a home than a hostel, and they even had fresh vegetables from the garden, plus cereal and bread condiments. The dorm was air-conditioned in summer, which made things much more comfortable. I also liked that the rate stayed fixed during peak season. The massage chair in the living room was a lovely surprise.
