Swaggers Backpackers

I had the room to myself for 3d2n, even though I think it could sleep 6 pax. It wasn’t the usual backpackers bunk room, and might even be better. :) Try it and see. The location is almost right in the centre of town, lol, and the pier is easy enough to reach on foot. Agra is the loveliest, so down-to-earth and kind. I could chat with her all day as she shared her backpacker stories and made us feel like we were all her people. She makes you feel included and loved, and her words and actions really get to you. She even made sure my bed was warm enough for sleeping. Fantastic woman. She has a super adorable, friendly furball called waika, too.

This is without doubt the best place I’ve stayed in New Zealand. Agra is so kind and big-hearted, and made us feel at home. If you’re visiting Oamaru, don’t hesitate to stay here.

Laila, the owner’s dog, greeted us with loud barking, but Agra, the kind old lady who owns the place, let us in. We paid a very affordable price for a room with a breathtaking view. Agra made us feel very comfortable, and even took us on a free trip around town and grocery shopping. She was fun to be around, and not at all racial about the fact that we’re Asian. We only stayed one night in April, but would have stayed longer if we’d known how good it would be. Highly recommended. I trust you won’t find a bed and place this warm in New Zealand. ❤️ from Thailand, as a visitor.

Agra was my favourite place to stay during a year backpacking around the country. He was incredibly welcoming, and when I left, he even drove me to the edge of town and dropped me off. I still think about that visit and hope I can come back.
