The room had a spectacular view across halfmoon bay, and there was plenty of space for luggage. Heating in the main area and bathrooms kept things cosy. Cindy and Hilton made our three days feel like a home away from home, from collecting us at the ferry to introducing us to locals and helping arrange hiking, diving and fishing trips. Their suggestions helped us get the most out of our time on the island. My wife and I can't praise our stay at the Stewart Island Lodge enough. Oban is well worth visiting on a South Island trip if you're an adventurous traveller. We'll definitely return to the lodge when we're next in NZ.

That climb up to the lodge is no joke, but it gets the heart going and helps balance out the generous breakfasts and tasty local fish and chips. We loved the room, especially the lovely view and how warm it was. The electric blanket was a welcome extra when we got back from kiwi hunting at 1am. Trailfinders arranged our stay, and we were happy with the pick. Hilton met us at the ferry, showed us around a little, and shared ideas for things to do and places to eat. Cindy made us feel right at home when we arrived. Highly recommend it.

Ulva Island is well worth a visit, and if the sky is clear, the steep climb to Observation Point at night is worth it for the stars. We got lucky with the weather. During our two nights at Stewart Island Lodge, Hilton met us off the ferry and showed us around the area, which was a helpful way to get oriented. Cindi and Hilton were lovely hosts. Our bedroom had a roomy walk-in wardrobe with a fridge and tea and coffee facilities, plus an amazing view over the bay. The lounge and dining room had spectacular views too. I’d recommend the Lodge without hesitation.

We could hear the ocean and birds as we drifted off and woke up, which made the stay feel pretty special. The views were incredible, and Cindy and Hilton were every bit as lovely, warm and welcoming, and generous with what they know about the island. This was an amazing place to stay on Stewart Island, and it made our time there unforgettable. Highly recommend it.

We’ve already booked another stay for November, and I’m looking forward to coming back. Hilton was friendly and helpful, and breakfast had plenty to choose from, including gluten-free options. Our room was comfortable, the bathroom was excellent, and the harbour view was stunning. There’s also a covered deck with a big table and lots of chairs, a great spot to sit and take in the setting. Such an awesome place on Stewart Island.
