It felt like staying with a mate, really relaxed. Jimmy's a great host, easy company, and nothing was too much trouble. The place was clean and comfortable, though the approach is steep. Jimmy's old Nissan gets you up there. We had a hearty breakfast, and the views from the deck over the sound and his veggie patch were spectacular. Shame we could only stay one night. Highly recommended.

Jimmy picked us up and made us feel welcome straight away. My wife and I stayed two nights with another couple, and he was great company. Nothing was ever a problem. If you're after a classic Stewart Island holiday, this is a great place to stay. Highly recommend.

Waking up to birdsong and bacon and eggs made our stay even better. Jimmy's a kind, friendly guy who goes out of his way to make things pleasant at Ponga B&B. The views are amazing, and the rooms, shower and everything else were clean and tidy. We'd definitely recommend it.

The climb up the hill is steep, and getting here could be difficult for anyone less mobile, so that's why I'm giving four stars. Once there, though, we had a memorable four-night stay. Jimmy met us at the ferry and drove us about a kilometre from the village in his ancient '85 Datsun Laurel, then even gave us a lift to the pub. The house is simple and peaceful, perched above the bush with stunning views. He treated the four adults in our family like his own from day one. Clean and comfortable, with home-cooked breakfasts and genuinely warm, bush-style hospitality.
