My partner and I are young travelers, and we stopped in to ask about a stay for my dad’s 70th birthday because it seemed like somewhere he’d love. The first interaction with the owner made us uncomfortable. We were told there was no availability for the whole month we wanted, then, after about 10 minutes in the parking lot while we looked for another place, we were rudely told to leave and that we couldn’t park there. We were bewildered by the cold way the owners treated us, so I checked availability online. It showed seven nights open during that month. It really seems like a good place to stay, so it’s upsetting to feel there may have been some kind of prejudice behind how poorly we were treated, and that we were even lied to about availability. I hope the owners read this and make a positive change.

The grounds are beautiful, and Heidi made us feel so welcome at The Peppertree. We were delighted we stayed, it was a fantastic part of our time in New Zealand and one of our highlights.

We only managed two nights because of ferry problems, though we really wished we could’ve stayed much longer. Heidi’s hospitality and eye for detail are second to none. Our room was fabulous, very comfortable, and had lovely views. Her breakfasts set us up so well for the day. If we’re lucky enough to return to New Zealand, we’ll make sure to come back to the Peppertree and stay longer.

I’ve stayed everywhere from five star city hotels to campsites around the world, and rarely have I found somewhere I’d happily stay forever. The Peppertree is beautiful and the hosts are fantastic. I can’t recommend it highly enough. If I come back to New Zealand, it’ll be the first place I book.

Heidi & Werner made me feel completely at home. They’re genuinely warm hosts, and you can tell they enjoy having guests. The rooms are spacious and clean, breakfast was delicious, and the wine from their small vineyard is superb. It’s a beautiful boutique place. They also helped me put together a great itinerary, which made my stay very pleasant.
